Dr. Oster’s involvement in her profession was influenced by the altruistic challenge of Internal Medicine. However it was during the HIV epidemic that Dr. Oster was further inspired to be involved within the Internal Medicine field, more specifically working in Infectious Disease.

Focusing her studies in Internal Medicine, Dr. Oster graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School with her MD in 1980. Following her graduation, she began her flexible Internship in 1981 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. Next she participated in an Internal Medicine Residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her Residency, as Chief Resident, in 1985 at the Martinez California VA Medical Center. She then was selected for a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of California, Davis in 1985 finishing in 1987. While living and working in the San Francisco Bay area of California, she became involved with the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, enterococcus antibiotic resistance and new antibiotic trials. Dr. Oster was appointed Chairman of the Infection Control Committee at Doctors Hospital of Pinole, and co-chairman at Brookside Hospital, San Pablo, California. She also implemented the first Hospitalists programs at these same hospitals and practiced infectious diseases at Sutter Solano hospital in Vallejo sometimes seeing transfers from the male medical prison in Solano county until she left California in 1999.

In her current capacity, Dr. Oster has filled the role of primary physician within Oster Medical Group for the past 15 years. Displaying expertise in the areas of internal medicine and infectious disease, Dr. Oster’s daily responsibilities include practicing all aspects of Internal Medicine with a sub-specialty in infectious disease. Dr. Oster has always been involved in teaching and has provided training to MD, DO, NP and, PA students.

As part of the private practice, Oster Medical Group, Dr. Sharon Oster provides general primary care services to adolescents, adults and seniors. This includes general health maintenance, acute disease and general disease management. She also practices the specialty of Infectious Diseases.

Looking back at her career to date, Dr. Oster attributes her success to her demeanor, alongside accepting and embracing the arduous and investigative nature of internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Oster has been honored to have been presented with the Resident of the Year Award from Martinez VAMC in California and graduated with distinction and Phi Beta Kappa from University of Colorado as an undergraduate. Locally, she is involved with the Rocky Mountain Pus Club, a group of infectious disease practitioners from Washington, Idaho, Utah , and Montana.

In a continuous effort to broaden her knowledge within her field, Dr. Oster maintains an active membership with The American Board of Internal Medicine.

Looking to the future, Dr. Oster aspires to continue on her path, growing her private practice. Outside of work, Dr. Oster is highly regarded for committing her time, skills and knowledge to a Genesis Mission in India and doing infectious disease for some of the refugees that have relocated to Boise and hopefully helping the public health in the current coronavirus outbreak.
